One of the most crucial steps in the entire document type development process is defining a document number range. Both internal and external managed number ranges are possible. While the external ranges are assigned manually or automatically through interfaces with other modules or systems, the internal ranges are automatically increased by the system.
Alphanumeric names allow you to specify ranges of numbers. As a result, number ranges can be defined using the same name as your document types, which will make it easier for you to track and maintain them in the future. Additionally, it could be a good idea to share a single number range across two or more document kinds, such as credit notes and invoices. Additionally, remember that the ranges of numbers are specified by the company code and are not shared between them.

When you enter into the transaction, fill your Company Code for which you want to define number range and click on “Intervals” button in change mode.
Create your number ranges with adding them on new lines.
Add additional number ranges if such are required and hit the “Save” button.
On following screenshot you will see how some of the number ranges are defined for company code 001. You could see that some of the ranes are maintained externally.
