SuccessFactors is an SAP product suite to provides cloud-based solutions to manage business alignment, people performance, recruitment, and employee central and learning activities for all sizes of organizations in more than 60 industries. SAP SuccessFactors is a cloud-based HCM solution developed on the Software as a Service (SaaS) model.

  • Integration Add-On 2.0 for SAP ERP HCM and SuccessFactors BizX
  • Integration Add-On 3.0 for SAP ERP HCM and SuccessFactors

How does SAP HCM integrate with SuccessFactors?

Compensation Data

You can support the compensation process on Business Execution by transferring data from compensation SAP ERP HCM to SuccessFactors BizX. It is also possible to transfer planned compensation data from SuccessFactors Business Execution to SAP ERP HCM and you can import this data in the payroll cycle in the HCM suite.

Employee Data

Integration add-on allows you to transfer employee and organizational data from SAP ERP HCM to SuccessFactors and you can manage the Talent Management process on SuccessFactors Business Execution (BizX).

Evaluation Data

You can manage workforce planning and analytics by transferring data from SAP ERP HCM to the SuccessFactors cloud.

How do you integrate SAP with SuccessFactors?

It was quite a journey to get my first integration-ready to hit the ground running, hence I will share a full step-by-step guide that goes through every step that you need to take to get your (first) integration up and running with Integration Center.

In this guide, I will be setting up an integration called Everbridge with Integration Center to go through all steps and considerations that are to be expected whilst setting an outbound integration from Successfactors integration with SAP HCM to another system. This integration will leverage personal, phone, and email-related data and will show how to overcome the challenges when you are working with such data.

Objective: Setting up an outbound integration

Essentially how you set up your integration depends on the business needs and what the target system requires. A Cloud Architect could help you a lot here, but with some guidelines and an example of an outbound integration I hope to make this clear.

What is the difference between SAP HCM and Successfactors integration with SAP HCM?

SAP SuccessFactors is a cloud-based SaaS provided by SAP vs SAP HCM is usually referred to as the Legacy(traditional/old) suite provided by SAP. Essentially, both solve the same Business problem – Which is Human Resource Management.

But are built on completely different technologies and have a lot of differences if you compare them more granularly.

From a user experience perspective, when you use SAP HCM, you need to use SAP GUI (a desktop app or a web app for SAP). You need to remember the transactions and the UI is a bit clumsy and outdated. Definitely need the training to use this.

SAP SuccessFactors provides a fresh intuitive user experience. The UI is almost like using Facebook, Quora, or navigating around any modern website. Even if you do not get much training you can use this intuitively easily.

What is SuccessFactors integration?

SuccessFactors’ integrations allow you to automate key HR processes, remove any obvious borders between master data and HR data, and aid in building the framework that will give you precise and reliable real-time data, independently of where your Master Data is stored.

Is HCM part of s4 Hana?

There is no native HCM in SAP S/4HANA. Instead, it runs as a “sidecar,” acting as a separate integrated platform with its own release cycles and support timelines. SAP’s decision to create SAP S/4HANA HCM is being driven by business reasons.

SuccessFactors is a cloud-based human resource management system. Therefore, client data needs to be syndicated in-house from your SAP Human Capital Management (HCM) system to the Cloud. This syndication requires a secure, reliable middleware process. There are several Add-on that support this process:

  • SAP provides pre-built content which can be imported into SAP HCM and SAP Process Integration (PI).
  • Contents in SAP HCM are imported via SPAM/SAINT transaction code. The add-on is primarily responsible for extracting data from SAP HCM or importing data into SAP HCM.
  • Contents in SAP PI are imported as.TPZ files in  Enterprise Services Repository (ESR). The add-on provides pre-built configuration objects (Data Types, Message Interfaces, Mapping programs, Communication Channel templates, and more)
